In the third quarter of 2009, Merck acquired Suzhou Taizhu Technology Development, a leading supplier of effect pigments headquartered in Taicang, near Shanghai, in China. The total value of the transaction was € 26 million. In October, Merck acquired Bangalore Genei of≈India for € 4.6 million to become a leading supplier of bioscience products in India.
In Bulgaria, we strengthened our business by acquiring the sales company Aquacomp for € 2.8 million in the third quarter. The company, which posts annual sales of around € 10 million, has been our marketing partner for the past 17 years.
